Observation #3
No suprises this week in Cottonwood Park. I am starting to regret that I picked this area because there isn't anything new from week to week. However, I was amazed to see how green and manicured the grass looks this week. I think that this is because of all the rain we have been getting, along with the snow. This is making the grass greener, but the pond is still extremely dry. Im starting to think that the dirt is so dry that the soil absorbs the water before it can get to the plants. As for the fauna in the area, its not any more exciting then before, with only the small song birds present the cottonwood trees all around the park. After observing these birds for a while, Ive noticed that as an anti-predator adaptation the birds seem to flock together in large groups to confuse the predators. This tactic hopefully keeps them from interacting with the predators too much. I also believe that they are preyed upon by larger birds such as hawks and owls. When more water comes into the pond (if it ever does) I hope to see many more organisms present in the area.
